Registrations, licences and checks to sort out before your first container or air shipment arrives.

Before you order

Get your importer registration: EORI in the EU and UK, an importer number in the US, an importers' register record and ACID in Egypt, a Business Number in Canada.

Classify the product and check the duty and whether it needs a licence or certificate.

Agree the Incoterm so it is clear who pays freight and clearance.

Before it ships

Collect the commercial invoice and packing list and check they match the order.

File any advance data the destination requires (ISF in the US for ocean, ACID in Egypt).

Appoint a customs broker and send them the documents early.

When it arrives

Pay duty and VAT, arrange collection and check the goods against the packing list.

Keep every document for audits — usually for several years.
